First game was against Imperial Guard. Had a bad deep strike with a unit of Terminators (that's 270 points out of a 1000) that ended up on the ass-end of the board (battle was happening mostly my right side, they were re-directed to the back left corner. 2 Turns of moving and running later, I got one shot off at a Chimera. Loss for me.

Game two was against some marines. There was a "clarification error" about the mission (I happened to be playing the guy who wrote the mission), so the unit holding the football, came in from outflank and then went off the board to get the primary objective. Other than that, it was a slug-fest (no pictures of that one, sorry).

I think I'm done with my 1000 pointers, on to the 1250.. hmmmm, what to add, what to add..

2-2 tie vs a necro team. Casualties were 5-4 in his favor. My turn 8 o the second half I had a halfling in the end zone with the ball a his feet. No one around, 1 reroll left. Moved to pick up the ball, rolled a "1", re-rolled.... Rolled another "1".

Two days in, three games down...

Here's the end of game from Game 2. We're playing an escalation league down at the store - starting at 750 points, upping it by 250pts each fortnight. At 750, I've got two squads of 5 terminators, and Mordrak. Game 1 was against Dave's grot army (Warboss, Mek with KFF, 2 units of 10 grots, and 2 battlewagons with Killkannon, Deff Rolla, and some other extra grubins). Annihilation, Spearhead. It was a fast game. He earned 0 KP's... I earned 6.

Game 2 (picture above), was against Eldar. Yriel, 2 Avenger squads in wave serpents, and 2 Fire Prisms. Mission was Annihilation, setup was Dawn of War. He went first and chose to bring everything on the first turn. I chose to deep strike everything. So, turn 1 he zoomed on 24" and spread out the tanks. Turn 1, I deep struck Mordrak. Turn two he fired with all 4 tanks at Mordrak, putting 1 wound on him - free Ghost Knight for me, and one unit arrived via deep strike. That free Ghost Knight put me 11.5" away from one of his wave serpents. MC Thunderhammer knocks the weapons off and stuns the serpent. Yriel got out of the second 'serpent, tanks shot, a normal terminator died, and Mordrak was wounded again (ya! another Ghost Knight - and yes, before you ask, I was rolling for those). Yriel charged Mordrak's squad, killed the two Ghost Knight before Mordrak put at MC Thunderhammer through his poncey pointy-eared skull. :) Turn 3, he was able to kill another terminator and on my turn 3 the last squad came in, and destroyed one of the prisms. One more wound was put on Mordrak in there (don't remember when though - but, no Ghost Knight came out from that one). One of the units of Avengers ended up dying in there late game. Game ended after turn 5. Kill points were 3 to 0, secondary objectives were all me (kill HQ), and Tertiary was also me (VP's).

Game 3 was against Marines. From memory he had Captain, Librarian, 2x10 Space Marines (las / plas & las / melta), both in drop pods (characters split between the two), and a unit of sniper scouts. Annihilation, and Pitched Battle (for the record, I only rolled for one of the missions for these games - the first. My opponent rolled for the other two...). Game went longer than any of the other games - 7 full turns. At the end of the game, I had 2 terminators from one squad and 1 from the other squad. He had a wounded captain, 2 marines, and a drop pod.

Lessons learned from today's games. I like Mordrak -he's fun. I *really* need to remember Grand Strategy. I could have really used the re-roll "to wound" on all my games... Onto 1000 points, looks like it's time to add a Dreadknight.

Rebuild of "Smells LIke Team Spirit"

First up, the new Beast of Nurgle. I'm using a slightly modified Avatars of War "Herald of Pestilence." First time I've used something from Avatars of War. Overall, I like the model - it has a serious gap issue (you can see that from the greenstuff), and it fits nicely on one of Impact!'s 30mm bases.

Second is the new Rotters. Using Crypt Ghouls from the GW Vampire Counts line.

I'm still waiting for the Pestigors and Chaos Warriors (Nurgle Warriors).

Game one was vs. 2000 points Dark Eldar. Lots... and lots... and lots... of poison weapons. Reserves weren't my friend this game - I came in too piecemeal and. Let's just say it was a quick 2000 point game. :)

Off to lunch, and on to Game two.

1750 vs. Eldar.

I set everything up (all 10 terminators and 3 dreadknights) and proceeded to take him apart. End of the game, I had a 5 man sitting on one objective, a scoring dreadknight sitting on the second objective, and a single terminator that ran off the third objective when the other terminator still living got shot by the avatar's "meltagun". For him - he had an avatar with one wound left. Basically, the army did what it was "supposed" to do.

I supposed one of these days I should get the shoulderpads on these terminators... and maybe get them painted. :)

A funny thing happened while at the game store...

So, I lost the semi-finals (see previous post). Ronnie (Chaos) played Zach (Norse - my opponent) and ended up winning the championships. The two players of the final each won $50 ISC, and we had drawings for two $25 ISC. I won one of those (keep that in mind) in the drawing.

After lunch I started playing a game of 40k with a new guy and Ronnie came over and wanted to know what I wanted for my Nurgle team. He said he was going to use his winnings to get GW's one - but it didn't have all of what he wanted in the team, and then he'd have to paint it (and figure out what to use for his Beast of Nurgle). So, he wanted to buy my team from me. I told him to make me an offer I couldn't refuse. He offered the $50 ISC and $30 in cash (since he wouldn't have to pay one of the other guys to paint the team).

So, that means. I walked into the game store today with a BB team that I built from my bitz box and about $8 of bitz from an online bitz store. Played a game of BloodBowl, a game of 40k and walked out with $30 in cash and $75 (well $74.25) worth of GW credit. Bought a fantasy box as well as some BB figs - so I can recreate the team using different models - for Kubla.

And the 40k game? 20 models vs. an ork horde of... horde. Here's a pic of him starting his first turn of Dawn of war. Yes - that's 4 squads of 30 boyz.

The game ended with 4 GK Terminators holding one objective. 3 Orks holding another, and 12 Orks holding a third (with the 4th objective being unclaimed).

Well, that didn't go quite to plan. This is the start of the game. It was bloody, it was brutal... And it was loss, 2-1. Good game, but in the end I just couldn't get to where I needed to to do what I needed to.

Game 1 vs. Dante's Drop army of Doom (Dante, Dread Libby, 4 x5 Honor Guard, Furioso Dread, and 2 Storm Ravens). If you can't tell from the picture - that was one of my Knights firing a heavy psycannon at the storm raven that was 8 inches away... I rolled box cars for deviation. 12 - 4 = 8 inches of deviation... right back on my head. That was my rolling for most of the game. Needing 3's to wound, rolling 2's... lots of 2's...

I was wiped out on Turn 5. Off to lunch, and on to Game 2 vs. Dark Eldar.

This was part of turn 1 of my game vs. the Dark Eldar. It was a knock-down, drag-out, fighitng fight. At the end of the game, I had a wounded knight, 1 terminator from one squad, 4 from another, and my grand master; he had an immobilized Venom, 2 scourges, and a Razorwing Jetfighter... And it ended in a tie. His razorwing did a turn 5, on from reserve, turbo-boost move to contest my objective and then shot and killed the knight with the venom. Rolled to end the game... rolled a 1.

Also known as Game 12.

I ended this season the same way I started it. In the Pouring Rain, playing against the Norse. Same coach - he did end up restarting after our first game - and his one hurt him worse - Casualties were 7-1, including 2 stat breaks, and 3 deaths.... I did much better on the "scoring" for this game though, winning 4-1.

Roughly half his rolls were 1's - which, isn't so good when you need to roll anything but that to be able to hit most of my guys. The three deaths (Ulfwerner, Lineman, and Runner) did net me one free Rotter (only had space for one on my roster). His dice were comically bad - and mine were above average.

So, at the end of 12 games, it looks like I'll be going into the finals (something about having 9 wins, 1 loss, and 2 ties) with the following team:

1 Strength Broken Beast of Nurgle with Guard and Block
3 Nurgle Warriors, all with Block
3 Pestigors with Foul Appearance, one with Guard, one with Frenzy and Juggernaut, and one with Nerves of Steel

Blood Bowl Nurgle - Game 11 (of 12)

A reasonably mellow game - all things considered. It was against a Necro team. He had 2.8 million in inducements - picked up Hack Enslash and an Igor. Hack was the only one of his players to do anything (broke the Beast of Nurgle's Collar Bone... failed his Regen roll too). Game ended in a 1-1 tie - just too much of a grind to get anywhere with it.

Painting Nurgle in 15 easy steps! (Part 3)

Step 10 - This was the easy and clean up steps. Basing and sealing basically. So, first up, paint the base black. I was cheating and using a mixed tone ballast - so I needed a black base. Were I painting the ballast, I would have painted the base after the glued ballast went down.

Step 11 - ballast. Watered down white (PVA) glue, ballast, let dry, and then further watered down white glue to seal.

Step 12 - Flock. Using the slightly thicker white glue mix, the models got random spots of flock and then static grass. It was kinda weird - it altered the color tone a little on the skin tone. A little hard to see in the picture, but it was noticeable when I did it.

Step 13 - Blood bowl numbering. I've started numbering both the front and the back of the bases for my blood bowl teams. It makes easier for everyone playing to know which guy is which. Since my base rings are black, they get a small white spot.

After that, it was on to Step 14 - The spray sealer. Some people say this step is not needed - after all you did just dunk your mini in a liquid designed to protect your deck from hail storms... but I find it's nice to get an even color tone (even some color shifting), as well as protecting all the other stuff you'd done to the model since the dip.

You may notice something missing - the numbers. The spray sealer will make the Sharpie ink run - don't ask me how I found that out... my Slayer's still don't look right. Up to this point, I'm out something like 30 minutes of paint work for the black, the glue, the second coat of glue, and the white - it took longer because I was waiting for glue to dry.

Step 15 - The Numbering. I kept the numbers the same from when I started (something about playing with the army before even priming. It's a habit I've done with Blood Bowl teams, the "specialists" are always the low numbers and the "linemen" are always the upper numbers. I don't know why... maybe it's just ADD kicking in...

So, total paint "work" time is roughly 3-4 hours or so. All of it done during the evenings. Start to finish was closer to 6 days of time.. It was enough though. Our BB Commish was going to give me crap (again) for not having a painted team when I started my games on Sunday and I got to give him the blank "what do you mean?" stare as I pulled them out of the case all done.

In last episode....

Right - Part 6 - Copper on the metal bits (and something I should have done differently). The color tone turned out to be a little too close to the leather of the boots. You'll see it on the completed pictures later on.

Step 7 - Black on everything that doesn't have paint on it already. This is more of a "rotten fabric" thing - filling in the things that weren't other colors.

Step 8 - Reds for body parts, tongues, and a wolf grey for the hair bits.

After this is was clean up of the paint and the the almighty dip. I use MinWax Waterbased stain. I'm still working on getting the new color line right (they changed lines on me). This was American Walnut - which was too red for what I wanted really... Oh well, moving on.

Step 9 - Post Dip.

I let them sit overnight to finish drying. All done in about an hour (except for the dipping) in one night. The dipping was done the next day - something about that's when the time was available. On to part 3...

Not pictured - is the straight up primed only picture. So, here's Step 1 - which was "Dead Flesh" on the skin.

Step 2 - Purple on everything. I tried not to duplicate where they had purple, but there was two rotters who got purple tabards.

Step 3 - a combination of light brown and dead flesh for the Pestigor's fur.

Step 4 - Brown - leather-esque for other clothing bits.

Step 5 - White for the bone bits.

This far was done in roughly an hour or so of work over two days, with some touch-up for over paint where needed. I let them sit overnight, and then got on with the show.

Game 8, 9 and 10

Long shot of the 1-0 win I got over the Chaos Dwarf team. I blame the rain. Almost made it 2-0. Turn 8 of the first half, no re-rolls... I had a rotter dodge out, run back, pick up the ball, go for it twice, pass a short pass to a Pestigor in a tacklezone who caught the ball. The plan was to have the Pestigor blitz the Bull Centaur in my way, and going for it twice more, score. Pestigor rolled a Skull.

I like to call this one "punching bag" - this would be the @$$-beating I gave a human team. 5-0... No long term damage to the humans though... Something about having an apothecary and 2 wandering apothecaries for those that needed it.

And last but not least, the 2-0 beating of the Orcs. A lot of his blitzers had Stand Firm,else there would have been many more guys beaten up by the crowd.

So, with 2 games left to go in this season. I'm 8-1-1 with a 21-6 differential on Touchdowns, and 25-5 for Casualties.... no deaths though - so, no free Rotters.... yet.

Game 6 and Game 7 - Nurgle

Nurgle vs. Orcs - after a Pitch Invasion. He had the Fame... the crowd wanted blood. :)

Ended up winning 2-0. Funny story - Rotter has the ball 6 squares away from the end zone on Turn 8 of the first half, he has a MV of 5 and I've got no re-rolls. Stop me if you've heard this before... Luckily for me, it was only a Stunned after the armor was broken.

Second game of the day was vs. a Chaos Team. This was the view I had most of the game. He won 3-1 (there was some abysmal rolling on my part - but it was countered by nicely timed failures on his part for Foul Appearance). There we're no casualties this game... None.

Sigh. I need to paint my team. Right - now's a good time. :)

I have found glue!

As for the title, evidently there's only one place in Walla Walla to get plastic glue. The local comic book shop that sell's GW only had GW branded super glue. A) I don't use super glue on plastic (too brittle), and B) it was GW branded glue.... *sigh*

Turns out the toy store down the street (think a kid friendly Spencer's) had the Testor's glue...

Seven to go for this season. No pictures today - the team isn't done yet anyway... it's primed though. :)

Game 4 was vs. ~~some Chaos Dwarf (Dwarves?)...~~ A Chaos Dwarf Team. 3-0 shutout, and I out casualtied him 2-1... adding insult to injury, my one received casualty was regenerated.

Game 5 was vs. Humans. 2-0 win, 3-1 casualty spread (again, regeneration kicked in)... the crowd however was brutal. I pushed a catcher into the crowd (hey, he had the ball and would have scored next turn). They broke his ankle.

So, after 5 games - I'm 4-0-1, team rating is 1,340,000. My beast has Guard, a Nurgle Warrior has Block, all of my Bestigor's have Foul Appearance, and a Rotter has Kick. The team consists of 1 beast, 3 Warriors, 3 Bestigors, and 8 Rotters. I haven't made a new Rotter yet... but I have had an opponent have a player miss the next game on all my games...

So last night, I spent about an hour and a half cleaning off the painting/building desk. Tools got put away, bitz got put in their respective bitz containers, paint got sorted - everything got cleaned. Clean slate.

Up on the paint deck is an Orc Bloodbowl team for ebay, and my Nurgle team for the local league.

Up on the building deck is my new army (more on that later - I promise), and the last of the Orks to bring it to 2500 points (three killa kans on warbuggy "legs").

Right so new army. 20 model Grey Knight list (I know, I know... I've heard it, move on).

OM Inquisitor with 3 Servo-Skulls (cause they're cheaper if wielded by an Inq. vs. the Grand Master)
Grand Master with Storm Bolter and M/C Force Sword, Digital Weapons, Psybolt Ammo, Pychotroke and Rad Grenades, and a single Servo-Skull
3 Units of 5 Termiantors with Psybolt Ammo, Banner, 1 Hammer, 1 Falchion with Psycannon, 1 Sword, led by a Justicar with Falchions
3 Dread-Knights with Heavy Incinerator, Heavy Psycannon, Greatsword, and a Personal Teleporter (aka - 300 poitns of goodness and light).

There's discussion for a "themed" team tourney to replace the GM and Inquisitor with Mordrak and one Ghost Knight... I'd be 15 points short of the 2000 - so I'd probably end up master-crafting the Justicar's weapons to make up the points. Pictures in progress should start showing up here this month (now that the summer of "no free time" is done).

Game 5 - You have how many dreadnoughts?

The answer is "six" by the way. Six dreadnoughts hurt. A lot. Fun game though - everything went into reserve for fun - and then most of them didn't want to come out and play... Mek with SAG actually killed a few things... it was amazing. Imaging this scene with 5 drop pods, roughly 25 marines, 4 dreadnoughts, a tech marine and vulkan in the middle... that's about what the end of turn 6 looked like. :)

Game 4 - Orks win!

I sat down for this game with one request - Could I please only fight 1 land raider. This game seemed to reverse all my (bad) luck from the previous 3 games. I could hit, I could wound, I could save... it was a miracle - I was rolling average! :)

Terminators in lower left had some issues hitting my nobs (they were in a land raider), and the terminators in the upper left - I stayed away from.

This was my opponents turn 1... that's 7 tanks that tank shocked on the board - total casualty for the Orks: one biker. Only failed 2 checks requiring the nob pole re-roll... and failed one of them.

The weekend...

So, we went camping this weekend. Had a wonderful time in the mountains with the family. The plan was to come back on Sunday and work on the display board for the Orks.

In reality, we had a lovely side trip that included one of these:

$170 for a tow from Pendleton to Walla Walla. It went down hill from there... Got the 'burban back today. And got to work more on the display board.

Everything's glued down nice and good, cutouts are in for the bikes. There's a layer of sheet metal for the magnets on the bikes. The black is a custom mixture of black paint, elmer's glue, and water to help seal the foam-core. I'm going to layout the bikes, put down the ballast and then paint a new layer on everything, seal it, and go...

Post Geek Weekend rundown

Right. Friday was the plane ride down to San Jose, lunch, and 3 Bloodbowl games with Nurgle. Saturday was 3 Bloodbowl games, 2 games of Battleground, and a 7 player game of Battlestar Galactica (more on that below). Sunday was a Battleground, 2 Bloodbowl, and 2 40k games. Monday was a Bloodbowl and a Battleground game, and then a flight home. Sixteen games over 72 hours in California.

I'm beat.

Right - Battlestar: 7 players, both expansions. I was a revealed cylon ("Cavil") who's win condition was to have the humans win and have at least one of the dials at 2 or less. At the end of the game - around the table from me -

not a cyclon / final five ("Gaeta" - most of the game he was President and Admiral and for the second half CAG as well),

The new expansion is rough. Fun, but rough. The cylon fleet is always pushing down on you.

Great weekend was had. Now, I get to finish my movement (aka "display") board for the Orks for OFCC - and I got a shipment of stuff for my new winter army project - more on that later.

Team Tournament style get together

So, a few of us drove out to Moscow to meet at the clubhouse of da Mamma's Boyz for a little OFCC pre-tournament gaming. It was only three of us - one of the OFCC team had a scheduling snafu, and had to bail on us. Since Moscow is east of us, I got the short part of trip..

Game one was against a Tau.

The missions were last year's OFCC missions - this one was the modified planetfall that includes objectives falling from the sky. Tau had deepstrike issues - mostly ending up delayed and/or allowing me to place units - the only failure he had was an objective. I had no unit deep striking failures, but did loose one of my objectives. Wazdakka and one of the units of bikers didn't come on till turn 4 (and when you start rolling for reserves - which is everything - on turn 1.. it's like coming in on turn 5). Primary mission was objectives (I had 2, he had 1), Secondary was Kill Points (he didn't have much left...), and Tertiary was killing HQ. 10 - 0 win for the Orks.

Off to the Pie-Hole for pizza by the slice.

Game 2:

Was vs. Evan's Marines - The mission was a 3 objective (that required a Troop and something else to claim), Secondary and Tertiary - I don't remember. And sorry, spaced the camera for taking pictures. Evan made fully half of my orks run off the board - when the dice gods say "no"... lemme give you an example of it - bolters firing at a mob of 4 bikers and their nob - end up scoring 5 wounds. Failed 5 4+ armour saves. The nob then caught a lascannon to the head. Hey - I didn't have to take a break test for that unit - cause, lord knows I would have failed it... Evan's a great guy, and I had fun playing the game. 10-1 loss for the Orks.

Game 3:

Strange, center objective counting, king of the hill type mission against Magnus' Space Wolf. All the luck I burned in my game 2, came back and smacked Magnus around. He couldn't hit with the special things, he couldn't make armour saves with the special things (I'm talking wolf banners, melta guns, wolf guard, mark of the wulfen, rune priests...) Here's a picture from about Turn 2. Those Wolf Guard termies - they ran off the board. Those bikers in the middle there - with some help of the 'Ard Boy squad and another biker squad managed to survive till the end - beating down 3 units of grey hunters, the wolf guard, and a wolf lord...

So, in three games - my Mek with Shokk Attack Gun manages to stun 1 rhino, and kill 1 Marine and 1 Biker boy. Game 1 it was completly useless - never getting close to hitting anything. Game 2, the only time it hit was when it was a low strength hit against a land raider, and Game 3 the deviation actually left the unit I was aiming at, to hit the unit behind them... Poor showing for him.

The "tri-cities" team beat da mammas boyz reasonably soundly, and a fun time was had by all.

We then piled back into Dave's car, grabbed some food, and drove home.

All and all, a fun day.

Well, not setup, per se... more "first turn". Kill Points, Dawn of War. 2000 points.

Orks:
Wazdakka, Mek with Shokk Attack Gun, Biker Nobz (kitted), 4 units of biker boyz, 'Ard boyz in a truck and 2 units of deff koptas.

Blood Angels (from memory): Librarian, Sanguinary Priest, 10 Assault marines (mmm, 3 KP's), 10 Death Company, Furioso Dread, 5 TH/SS Terminators, two 5-man tactical squads in lascannon razorbacks, 2 kitted storm raven's, and 2 MM speeders.

I went first, he held held the lib/sp/as uber-squad and the speeder's in reserve. Terminators and dread were in one storm raven, death company was in the other. It became a slug fest very quickly. He had more kill points to give up than I did - so, really - I had to just not die outright. :) I started off by getting wazdakka and a biker squad stuck in with the storm raven on the left (death companies ride), taking it out with wazdakka - before being gang-punched by the death company, the dreadnought, and the assault terminators. Wazdakka *almost* survived the blood talons. Which would have defiantly altered the game a wee bit.

From there it turned into a boxing match, he'd drop something, I'd drop something. At the end of turn 5 I was up by 3 KP - with 3 units left on the board. Turn 6 he shot the one remaining biker boy nob, killing him; shot and killed one of the 3 deff koptas, which broke and ran off the table... only because my one unit of biker boyz stayed out of charge range of his terminators did I manage to pull it off.

Since we're "practicing" for OFCC in August, we spent the whole game talking about choices, options - could haves, would haves, etc. It was fun.

Brought the Eldar out to play this week. Went up against a Dante led honor guard list. In the words of Manny "oooo, it 'urts!". Dante, 1 sanguinary priest, 3 squads of kitted HG, 1 Assault squad, 2 Stormraven's, a furioso, and a librarin dread. I didn't have enough range to do anything before he was on my like white on rice. At the end of the game, I had a damaged wave serpent, he had an immobilized stormraven, a functional stormraven, Dante, a weaponless libby dread, the furioso, the sanguinary priest, and 2 honour guard.

So, another Kubla down. Six games of Battleground, 3 games of Bloodbowl, 4 games of 40k, lots of food and beer, and travel. One puking 1 year old in the middle of the night. Too much time spent in the airport. The only major "kerfuffle" was when the mini's coordinator put is in the main space, which forced a time limit on the 40k event. And even that wasn't that bad.

Right - so the recap:

Thursday - we flew out of Pasco in the late afternoon, arriving at San Fransisco Airport about 45 minutes ahead of "Oma" (my mother-in-law... German for Grandma).

Friday - Breakfast with the women-folk (minus Darby, she was already on the clock), some hanging out, wandering around the hotel, etc. Once Corey and crew showed up, we unpacked his cars, did some more hanging out, wandered through the dealer's room - got some dinner and beer. From there, the gaming started.

We played 3 games of Battleground that night. Two at 1500 and one at 2000 (the front half of a six-round campaign-a-ment). I rolled both Scott and Manny, and then proceeded to get rolled by Corey. (See pictures below of the setup with Manny). After some sleep...

Saturday - up, food, grabbed the BG stuff as well as the BB stuff we were going to need. Played three more games of Battleground (one at 2000, and two at 2500). Rolled Manny, rolled Scott, got rolled by Corey. I'm sensing a pattern here - maybe it has to do with I play this game... oh, roughly once or twice a year, and he plays it 3-4 times a month. On to bloodbowl. Some new pitches, some new rules, and used my Slaan. Corey hates my Slaan. Something about being overpowered/undercosted... We played the new (and improved) Tzeentch bowl. Where rules change from turn to turn (including 3 turns of my hail-mary passer not wanting to give up the ball because it was his "precious" and one turn where my entire team had the stats of rookie Trolls). I lost that game 1-0. Game 2 was Mordheim bowl (think streetbowl, only full sized with some wacky fun time thrown in for good measure). That was a 1-1 tie against the Dwarfs (highlights include a dead Kroxigor to a gang-tackle foul that the Apothecary couldn't help with). Game 3 was against Chaos Dwarfs on Astartes Bowl. Astartes bowl is like playing on the moon - you can choose to move as normal or Leap your entire movement - if you have leap, you get a re-roll on the landing. You also end up flying back in squares equal to the strength of the blocker... it was fun. That was a 3-0 win at the half. At which point, it was 2:30 and I was tired.

Sunday - 40k de-escalation. This time with "simpler" rules than last year. My Orks tabled Manny's artillery company on turn 3 (the coup-de-gras being the deff kopta's hit-and-running out of combat with the command HQ "squad" after killing all but the Company Commander so Wazdakka could do a drive-by squishing. I then proceeded to table Scott's Orks (are we seeing a pattern here?). Against Corey in round 3 - it really came down to a failed physic test on his part to lash my nobs into range to do the beat down. I still almost lost because of the mission. Game 4 was against a deathwing army. Random scenario, fun game... strange game. Because we were at a time crunch, the game ended after turn 3 - where we figured out the mission. The mission was Objectives, and at that point, I had 2 and he had 1 and contested 2... the objectives move. We ended up with one each, and contesting 2...

After that, was the sitting around in the bar, eating, drinking and having fun. Corey and Manny decided to get another game of Battleground in. I went and sat in the human soup bowl for an hour with my wife, Corey's wife, and another woman... before getting kicked out by Hotel Staff. Went back to watch Corey and Manny finish the game. Corey and I went up to the staff room (cause the wives were there), and hung out till almost 2:30...

Monday, came way too early. Oma was leaving on an early flight, shuttle left around 9am. The kidlets and I did breakfast brunch with Corey and Manny, then I helped them pack up and get out. We decided to put the kids down early since we were leaving so damn early on the morning on Tuesday... and they had other ideas. :) Ideas that involved Lili puking at about 3am (something she ate didn't agree with her). We got up and checked out of the hotel at 6am, for the 8:30 flight back to Pasco.

After we got home, Darby and Lili took a nap, I did laundry... and then we went to the store for supplies so we could go pick up our new kitten. We adopted her last weekend, but since we were going to be gone this weekend, we had a friend of ours take her for the week. As of right now, she's sitting on the back of my chair sleeping. I'm not sure what her name is yet, but she's cute - purrs like a... well, like a kitten.

Got the last of the painted stuff back yesterday from my painting slave..... errr, good friend who, has in the past, willingly painted for his half-blind friend. Yeah, that's it.

Anyway, here's the family photo's of the biker nobz. All have bikes (duh), cybork bodies, and stikkbombs.

For those that can't see them because of the angle, the kombi-weapons and/or big choppa's are attached to the bike some how, either tethered to the frame, or slung somewhere. All of them have wound counters (skull on a stick).

So, that makes my 2000 point biker army complete. Since I've added a full unit of 'da Vulcha Boyz to the mix, I've got like 2313 points of painted "GO FASTA!" Orks. I'm contemplating adding another 187 points to the mix to make an even 2500 points. Now, it's a matter of what I want to add.

Tomorrow (possibly Monday) this whole army get's boxed up and shipped to Santa Clara, CA in preparation for Kubla Con. I will endeavor to get family pics of each of the units, as well as in action pics of my games.

Now I just need to figure out my basing and the display board... and for that matter, the army list... for OFCC in August.

Kickoff Table:

2) Purple Demon: One of the great metal doors inside the endzones opens to reveal a purple demons with four arms ending in wicked looking claws. Place a model representing the monster in the middle of a random endzone. The monster has Mv 7, Str 4, Agi 3, Av 8 and the following skills: Claws, Stab.

It activates each one of the receiving player’s turns, before any other models. If it starts a turn adjacent to a standing model, the monster will attack with its Stab & Claws skill. Otherwise it will Blitz the nearest standing model and Stab them. If the monster is adjacent to multiple models or equally distant to multiple models, choose randomly which is blocked/Blitzed. The monster is removed at the end of the drive.

Right. So. Bombsquigs in Bloodbowl you ask. Here's the deal.

For the Bloodbowl Champtionship Series tournament for Kublacon we've got a few new pitches. Bretonnian Bowl, Hashut Bowl, Astartes Bowl, and Da Big Bowl. There's some updates to some of the older Bowls, both for the rules and the graphics for the pitches. I won't go into the first ones on that list quite yet, but... lemme give you a hint at the mad genius that is Corey when he's had his daily dose of coffee:

"Instead of using a ball, Da Big Bowl is played with one (or more) squigs. Players can only hold one squig at a time. A squig treated as a ball for all skills & rules, with the following exceptions:..."

Now, most of the time the squigs will be "regular" squigs... but one of the kick off tables will alter the type of squig - gnasher, kangaroo, or bomb.

Bombsquigs were first because I had them. I'm working on finding the other squigs now.

So, as I was sitting there last night, painting some bomb squigs for Blood Bowl (yes, you read that right... I'll get to it in a minute.... and yes, I was painting) I was thinking to myself. What do I need to bring the orks to 2500 - in case I want to ever take them to a 'Ard Boyz style tournament.

I was thinking - the stream of thoughts went something like this:

hey, I like these models...
what if I added some Tankbusta's...
hmmm, I'd need to get them a battlewagon as well

What about lootas...?
no, they'd need a battlewagon too.

Dreads..?
no, too slow.

Kans...?
also too slow.

Crap.

So, when I finished the color I was working on (I'll put some pictures up tonight). I moved from the painting table to the computer desk and picked up the Ork Codex to flip through... seeing if anything catches my attention. Nothing really going here. Nothing I can see that fits with the theme... unless I do the nobz/meganobz in a trukk... So, that leads me to my question - What should I add to my Ork army that fits within the current theme: Wazdakka, Shokk Attack Mek, unit of biker nobz, 4 units of biker boyz, 1 unit of 'ard boyz in a trukk, 2 units of 3 deff koptas, and a unit storm boyz. Should I just increase the unit sizes?

So, bomb squigs. For Blood Bowl. Yeah.

What, you wanted more? Tough. I'll do some fill in when I post the pictures - happy?

Played another game against Clayton this afternoon - you may remember Clayton from the previous game (scroll down)... only this time we played at 2000 points. For me, that meant some biker nobs, and an increase in biker boyz and deff koptas. For Clayton that meant some giggering of squads, an extra terminator, etc.

We were playing one of the Adepticon primer missions - objectives were kill points, 5 markers, and kill HQ. 12" deployment zones - he was player 1 and I so failed to steal the initiative.

From there it was a knock-down, drag-out fight. Here's a (bad) picture i took in the middle of the game.

At the end of turn 7, I had 1 wounded nob from one squad, 4 bikers and a wounded nob from another, 1 ork boy from another squad, 2 of the rokkit deff koptas, and a wounded Painboy. He had an obliterator (one of the nine), a plague marine, and a land raider. No one had any objectives (my biker boyz were still in combat too far away to claim), both HQ's were dead (his in combat, wazdakka in combat, and the mek from a malfunctioning shokk attack gun - again with the "boom!").

Game 3 - Ork Beatdown of Chaos

Dr. Strangewaaagh. This one had a strange deployment zone. So, lemme get through it before you ask any questions. Divide the table into six 2' by 2' squares, number them 1 through s6 - one player rolls dice till he get's three different numbers. Those three squares are then his deployment zones. The other player get's the the other three. Each player then chooses a building in one of his deployment zone squares, and each also layout 2 objective markers (mine shafts).

Objectives:
We Must Now Allow a Mine Shaft Gap! - control of the objectives (6pts)
Kill Major Kong - get your highest point unit killed by the enemy (5pts)
I can no longer sit back...international communist... bodily fluids. - Kill points (If you've seen Dr. Strangelove that will make more sense) (5pts)
Air Force Base - control enemy's building (4 pts)

From my side of the table - I had the center 2 squares and the far left square. My opponent had the far right 2 and close left. He won the roll for first turn and setup his entire army along the right flank. I then setup about 18" away from him with a few things, further for most of my stuff and proceeded to steal the initiative. It went down hill for him from there.

This is from the assault phase of my first turn. In the bottom corner just out of frame is Wazdakka running the defiliers on the ground through with his power klaw. The one on top took a few more turns of shooting by the bikers to kill. The 'Ard Boyz charging his daemon prince in the little building was my suicide squad. I failed to get them all killed (my nob was running around at the end of the game (over near where the other DP is) with one wound on him.

Right, so looking at the picture - his army was the two daemon princes with lash and wings, 2 5 man units of plague marines with 2 plasma guns in the rhinos, a 7 man squad of 'zerkers with a PF asp champ in the land raider (borrowed from) a three man terminator squad who haven't deep struck yet, and 3 squads of 2 obliterators.

I washed over him like a green tide. The bikes in the top center came up and around to wipe out the black DP. Wazdakka cleaned up the oblits on the ground, swung around to finish off the closer rhino. Two squads of bikes in the middle went straight down the center, and the storm boyz took care of oblits on the wall on the far side as well as the terminators who deep struck in on turn 3 a few inches to the right of where my deff koptas are in the picture.

So, yeah. The game lasted 4 turns... I wiped him off the table to the loss of one complete unit of bikes, a deff kopta, 11 'ard boyz, and like 7 or 8 more bikes from various squads. I actually lost 4 bikers to failing dangerous terrain tests...

My dice were on fire, and I caught him flat footed by stealing the initiative. He did forget to move his second turn, but really - it wouldn't have done anything - just delayed it.

The only objective I didn't get was getting my stuff killed. :)

Prize goes to me with 40 points for the day. Second place was 25 points (my second game Tau) with 25 points. Should I feel bad for beating face so badly? :)

Game 2 - Slugfest vs. Tau

Army of 'Ardness. 12" deployment zone with three objectives down the center line. One building in your DZ is your building. Highest point unit is put in reserve till turn 4, and 1 non-vehicle HQ is your "Ash". (Can you see the theme yet?).
Objectives:

Seize the Objectives - only one of the three objectives is the actual - don't know till the end of the game. (6pts)
The Keep is Ours - If you hold both keeps... (5pts)
You're Leading two things, Jack and ... Modified VP. Your "Ash's" kills don't count (5pts)
Who Else Wants Some? - VP earned by "Ash" - highest wins (4pts)

Here's the setup. My deff koptas turbo boosted then got shot out of the sky by the kroot. It got bloodier from there. After turn 6 there was 2 bikes, a stormboyz, and a Kroot Shaper running away. Hightlights of the game include one of the Kroot units never running more than 4 inches for all 4 turns it was running - causing quite a bit of the damage while they were broken and sauntering away from the battle...

Game 1 - Orks vs. Space Marines led by Khan

The mission was called "The Longest Day". 20" wide deployment zones playing long wise with a gun emplacement. There were 4 different objectives -

Break Through - fastest unit off the players edge (6pts)
Seize the building - chosen unit has to claim a building in the enemy zone (5pts)
Seize the Emplacement - do I really need to describe it? (5pts)
Win the Day - Victory Points (4pts)

Here's a picture from about his second turn. The bikes continued to roll up my close side and steamroll over his marines. I got all the objectives and he seized my emplacement on his turn 5 with some attack bikes. Here's another picture from the middle of the battle.

For those of you playing along at home. It's kinda like the rules for Fight Club. Only, you know, geekier.

Right -
The First Rule of Tournaments is "Sit Down."
The Second Rule of Tournaments is "Drink Water."
The Third Rule of Tournaments is "Sit Down and Drink Water."

Yeah. I broke the first rule and my back is killing me. Played a 1650 point (I know, I know) tournament. It consisted of Wazdakka, my Mek with his stuff, 6 bikes plus power klaw nob, 5 bikes plus power klaw nob, 5 bikes plus 'uge choppa nob, 5 bikes plus 'uga choppa nob, 11 'ard boyz with power klaw nob in a trukk, 3 deff koptas with TL rokkits, 2 deff koptas with TL big shootas (one big bomm), and 10 stormboyz plus nob with 'uge choppa. As seen pictured here:

The tournament was a reasonably low marine count. It was 2 Orks, Tau, Necron, 2 Marines, Chaos, and one other... maybe it was a Marine... maybe not. Anyway, we played some strange missions that were written for Da Big Waagh (again). I'll post the games and write ups later this weekend.

Real quick like - I beat marines 20 to 5, squeaked past the Tau 5 to 4, and slaughtered Chaos 15 to 4. Winning the tournament.

Final game of League

This is my deployment from my game today. It was 1500 points on a mission called "A Bridge Too Far." The mission is for "The Calm Before the Waagh" as well as "The Big Waagh" tournaments. Basically, there's a bunker on each side of the wide bridge over the (even wider) river. River is difficult and dangerous terrain - so pretty much the bridge is the only way across the board.

I had to weather 3 turns of Tau shooting to get close enough to get a scrumpin' - but once I did it got ugly for the Tau. It didn't help that Josh couldn't make a moral check when he had to, and because he was so far back on the table... well, let's just say that the end of the world was closer than he really wanted it to be. :)

Here's a shot of the aftermath:

Objectives were to hold both sides of the bridge, control both bunkers, and kill the enemy bagpiper (one nominated model from Troops). Josh took out my trukk on the first turn so I knew there was really no way to hold his bunker - so instead I set about to blow it up.

All and all a fun little mission.

Next week - a 1650 point tournament is on the table. I'm fleshing out the deff koptas and adding some storm boyz.

First one was a Slaan on Undead game of Bloodbowl. At the half I was up 2-0, and only two casualties down.. :) He had to leave about halfway through the second half, but he was able to get one score in - he didn't have enough to pull a second TD though.

Second game was a re-match against the grot revolutionary committee. This time it was a Dawn of War with two objectives. I was able to avoid the grot-zukka laden killa-kans and deff rolla, sneak around the side, beat down on the grots holding onto one objective (surrounded by other non-troops to contest) while barely (like within .0001") holding on to my objective. Highlights include rolling snake-eyes for my first shot of the game with the mek's shokk attack gun - which, if you're not familiar with the SAG is the following:

Boom: The shokk attack gun explodes, leaving a crackling orb of unreality in its place. No shot is fired. Remove the Mek as a casualty. Models within D6" are removed from play.

Only because the mek was on an upper level of the building did the resulting explosion not take out Wazdakka, a Nob, and a biker...

Project Deathwatch: Master of the Forge

One Master of the Forge. Artificer Armour, Conversion Beamer, Thunder Hammer.

Now, before you say something - I know it's a renegade heavy plasma gun, and yes the helmet is a chaos space marine helmet. But there's something about it that works for me. The left shoulder pad is one of the Dark Angel Deathwatch ones, which makes the paint scheme a little easier - he'll be one of the Unforgiven... Still working on the details of the army paint scheme.

Played my 1250 game against the rebel grot army (2 big meks with KFF, 20 grots with minder, 10 grots with minder, 2 deff dreads,, 2 mobs of three kans, and a deff rolla delivery system).

Kill points, he stole the initiative... It went downhill from there. Game ended 8-2, with the only thing left of mine was a trukk. A trukk!

Frog Lovin'

Got the frog's dipped last night. Had to try a different color of dip - I couldn't find "American Walnut" in the waterbased (my preferred color). I had tried "English Oak" in the past, but it was a little too gray. The only thing I could find close was "Vermont Maple." Turns out, Minwax is switching to a paint-counter mixed product for their water-based products... or, I should say they have switched and it's just a matter of finding what I want in the product line that stores still have. I guess I'll have to do some research on the new color lines to see how well they match the old colors.

Anywho - on to the paint jobs. This is for my Slaan team. All of these models are from the Gaspez Arts "Frog Men" team - and can be see here.

I was pondering a few ideas while I was driving home the other day - the original plan was to have the two Sgt's on the troop choices be DW and then their squads would be from that chapter... But I was thinking - what about making the scouts be from the more feral, *ahem* Viking-esque chapters?

It started with just making the sgt a Space Wolf scout - but then what to do for the troopers? Model them as Inquisitorial Storm Troopers? All SW's? Crimson Fists? (army is led by Kantor) something else? That's when I started thinking about it - there's got to be other chapters that don't have scouts starting off...right?

Sunday's game report

Sunday I played catch-up for one of the league guys - giving him his 750 point game. It was against a nicely done Space Marine army. From memory - Librarian, scout squad of 5 (sniper and heavy bolter), 5 scouts in a storm, land raider, and a tactical squad... I think. The battle was a little of a blur... let's just say the dice and I had a falling out. :)

Second game was a 1000 pointer against a mirror'd net list (no offense there Clayton...). 2x Daemon Princes with Mark of Slaanesh, wings, and Lash of Submission, 2x5 Plague Marines in Rhino's with 2 plasma guns each, and 2 defilers built for close combat. Wazdakka, Big Mek, 4 squads of bikers (4 + power claw, 3 + 'uge choppa, 3 + 'uge choppa, and 2 + power klaw), 2 rokkit deff koptas and 2 kustom mega blastas).

It was Dawn of War with 2 objectives. We both started all off the board, I turbo-boosted everything on first turn, knowing that I would be taking the lash and 2 battle cannon shots on the first turn. I concentrated on the daemon princes first turn, then the defilers, then the plague marines. In email discussion several hours after the battle - I'm told Wazdakka took a defiler fist to the head after taking two wounds killing a daemon prince (which would be insta-death), but I don't remember it...

At worst it would have delayed the inevitable (see the pictures below) - but Clayton says he wants a rematch.

The Deathwatch Project

So, maybe it was from re-reading the Deathwatch book from Fantasy Flight Games. Maybe it was a something that been running around my head for a while.... I dunno. Anyway, I have this idea for a full Deathwatch army running around in my head. I'm trying to see it as a building project. The 2000 point list is (currently):
Kantor
Master of the Forge with a Conversion Beamer and Thunderhammer
7 Sternguard w 2/meltas in a drop pod
7 Sternguard w 2/missiles in a drop pod
8 Sternguard w 2/multimeltas in a drop pod
10 Scouts with snipers, camo cloaks, and heavy bolter
10 Tactical Marines, missle, plasma n a drop pod
5 Vanguard, kitted for combat
and a Thunderfire Cannon... wait for it.. in a drop pod.

There's no plan for a tournament, no deadline - just building things when the mood/inspiration strikes. To that end. I give you some of the first WIP shots of the Master of the Forge.

I've been pondering the paint scheme. Deathwatch marines are supposed to be all black, except for the silver of the right arm, and the shoulder pad of the marine's host chapter on the left side. I've been pondering that - I think I came up with a paint scheme that I like, and that I can get my wife to do for me. :)

Current plan is right arm black, silver DW shoulderpad, and then paint the rest of the armor in the chapter colors. That's for the Sternguard, Vanguard, Techmarines, Kantor, and the sgt's. The two squads will be all painted the chapter of the sgt. that leads them.

I'll post pictures randomly as I'm working on things.

Anyway, I'll be bringing 1000 points of Wazdakka for the escalation this sunday.... So, I should have some pictures and battles.

Well, to be fair - this game was before the other game... but whatever.

Played my 750 Escalation along with another guys 750 Imperial Grots (yeah, you heard that right - it's a rebel grot army) vs. a 1500 mech heavy imperial guard.

Turn 2 went badly for the mech IG. There was lots of tanks going *boom* that turn... none of them mine.

What this picture doesn't show is the Leman Russ Punisher that was just there... :)

That's all for now... hopefully I can get some time off from work to get some more posts up. I've got a friends way OOP resin Eldar stuff to go on ebay, as well as a few blood bowl teams. Le Sigh.

Wazdakka - week 2

I played against Eric's Blood Angels of doom. The doom was more the Eldar kind of "nothing good will happen". Although it was me dishing out the doom.

We had two objectives in Dawn of War deployment, I got both of the objectives at the end of turn 6. His army (10 man tac, 10 man assault, chaplain, and Baal predator) was wiped out to the loss of 3 deff koptas, 4 bikes, 1 nob, mek, and Wazdakka.

First up. The big Ork himself.

Next is the Mek with 'eavy armour, cybork body, shokk attack gun.

Next are the two nobs, one with the power klaw and one with the 'uge choppa.

And lastly are the dekk koptas - kustom mega blasta and rokkit launcha.

This weekend we go to 750 points. Which consists of Wazdakka, the big mek, 4 deff koptas (two of each kit out), and 9 warbikers (those two nobs and 7 boyz split between them). I need to repair the nob with the power klaw's model - he's supposed to have a boss pole - but it broke last time I played. I also need to get the deff koptas onto flying stands - I'm going to use Back2Base-IX's magnetic flying stands (really cool if you haven't seen them - go look here.)

For 1000 points (last weekend of January), the biker count increases (adding a third unit). I'm not going to base them till I've got the whole army in my hands... then I need to figure out how to transport them - those GF9 magnetic bases don't really fit in Army Transport foam well (even custom laser cut ones)... I might have to branch out for this one. :) I did see this the other day, that gives me some ideas - I might have to use BF's tray creator to see if the GW trays will work better for me.

So, we're doing an escalation league at the F(ns)LGS. Starting at 500 pts, then adding 250 points per two week - ending at 1500. This was today's battles. At 500 points, I've got Wazdakka, 2 units of biker boyz (3) with a nob (one power klaw and one 'uge choppa) and a rokkit deff kopta.

Game 0 was a intra team BFG biker fight. Tye and I played a game, and a "lucky" shot took out his bike squad, and immobilized his vindicator (facing the wrong way to hit me). When his captain on a bike tried to catch Wazdakka's power fist... Well, the word "splat" comes to mind. :)

Game 1 was Annihilation with spearhead deployment against the Tyco's Blood Ravens. There was lots of damaging vehicles, but not a lot of destroying vehicles. Tyco managed to wound Wazdakka and kill all the bikerz, to my destroying his predator, killing the librarian, and taking all the weapons off his vindicator and rhino... 2-2 kill points. Tie.

After a hearty meal of meat and bread, I had a Capture and Control, Spearhead against Carl's Marines. I was able to dispatch his tech marine in reasonably short order, the scouts and marines took a little longer, but his Rhino.... his Rhino survived against three turns of shooting and combat from a deff kopta and a bikerz squad led by a nob with a 'uge choppa... and two turns of Wazdakka's special sauce. And then, just barely getting the required "5" to destroy it (lots of 1's and 2's for damage results). Win for da boyz.

Rigging tourney's for the win!

So, evidently, Tye and I can rig a local tourney to guarantee a win. :) There's been some discussion on the back end for our beating face last weekend at the doubles tournament. "Did you know that not only are we bad ass at 40k, but we also have the ability to rig tourneys so we win. Cause, that was the only way we were able to stomp face so well...That's why the prizes were so big."

I was talking about this with Corey - and he referenced the South Park episode with Gnomes attempting to steal underwear for profit. See screen cap here modified to be the following:

Step 1: set up tournament, "manipulate" players to play at $10 a head.
Step 2: ???
Step 3: take all the winnings

His final bit was "There's a crucial flaw in the plan unless a) you had rigged scenarios b) you have an 'uber-broken' army list or c) you have microwaved dice." Now - rigged scenarios? You betcha! Rolled randomly from the big rulebook - definitely rigged... you check the fine print where it says "Trent and Tye always win"? "'uber-broken' army list"? Well - you know we did have 2 HQ, 2 Elite, 6 Troops, and 2 Heavy's in 2000 points... so I guess so. Microwaved dice? Nah... we play old school - each of my dice are hand-drilled to roll only 5's - great for orks shooting and armour saves - less helpful for the leadership checks. Now Tye's dice - his are hand crafted by specially trained Peruvian screech monkey's to have all seven sides of his D6's roll 3's.

Now it's my understanding that there were feelings that the tourney was "rigged" and Trent and I were going to win all along. That being the case, I figured I would enlighten you with our master plans. Following these easy steps you too can rig any tourney you play in.

Step 1: Make sure that you and your partner have a combined total of over 25 YEARS playing the game.
Step 2: Plan, Prepare, and Design a solid list that compliments each other well. Make sure that you have a strong list that is able to handle anything thrown at it.
Step 3: Make sure that you and your partner have time to talk strategy and different possibilities.
Step 4: Make sure your armies are painted and you are good sportsmen so that you don't loose points on dumb things.
Step 5: Play 3 good games against tough lists and decent players. And beat them soundly.

By following these simple steps, you too can win every tourney you play in.

So, at the end of three good games, team BFG (Beardy Fat Gits), went 3-0 to win overall.

Tye was on team short bus on game 1, only managing to kill one wounded bloodcrusher with his exploding Damocles. MVP was Wazdakka with his sniper dakkacannon, took a leman russ out on the first turn.

Game 2 was fun. Necrons and Ultramarines... Calgar was a tough nut to crack. Wazdakka hurt himself a lot while trying to Dukes of Hazard over a hill...

Game 3 was odd. Fun game.

It was good to get some games in. Tye and I walked away with some in store credit.

Finally got a game in with the new Slaan team yesterday. Played against a Human team. At 1m, I have to keep the team "light" - so it was 8 Linemen, 3 Bllitzers, and 1 Catcher. He had 4 Blitzers, 2 Catcher, 1 Thrower, 1 Ogre, and 3 Lineman.

He was definitely going for a "plan B" mentality (that would be B for Beating). I was able to score early in the first half and then he got away from me at the end of the half and scored. During the second half I was able to score twice on him.

Can't wait till these guys get all painted and I can get a few more games in with them... :)

More Gaspez-Arts goodness

First up, here's a screen cap of the model in question (blatantly stolen from their website here: http://www.gaspez-arts.com/?go=store&id=48&pgs=5&pag=5)

First of all, the model is beautiful. It was a dream to go together. The body is one piece. Then there's a head (one of two to choose from), the hands, the tail, and the dangly bits on the forearms. What makes it *really* nice to put together is the hands. See the things it's holding on to? Here, I'll give you a close up of mine after building it, see if you can see it:

The forearm and armour is one piece (attached to the body). The hand, *and strap* is one piece. There's a little notch on the ends of the strap that fit into divots on the armour bit, effectively locking it in place. It means the glue can connect the hand bit on three sides - no need to pin a hand down.

Anyway, I just have to say I really am liking their stuff more and more for Bloodbowl... *ahem*, excuse me - "Fantasy Football" :). This model took a little bit longer to get here than the other stuff, but they also threw in a "Elfo Selvaggio di linea 1" (Google translates that to "Wild Elf line 1" - which looks a lot to me like a Wood Elf Lineman...).

Anyway. After next weekend (my fourth anniversary and semi-annual trip into the barren lands of Southern Oregon) my weekends should start to relax a little on the "planned events". That means I should be able to get some games in, and the wife should be able to start putting some color down on these Frogs. Pictures will follow, I promise.

I did get to play in the OFCC tournament, went 3-2... had a blast. Started plotting new armies and can't quite get my head wrapped around it to actually do something.. not sure why. My friend RC thinks it's boredom. I dunno...

So, to that I decided I was going to do a new Blood Bowl team. I've been looking at the gaspez-arts "Frogmen" team for a while, and I finally decided to just do it. I ordered them on August 30th, and they showed up 8 days later - which is not bad, especially since they were coming from Europe and there was a 3-day weekend holiday in there.

My daughter has decided that she needs to open up the package.

The package was well packed, and all pieces came in one plastic container.

After some sorting, here's what it looks like:

The bases are very much like GW's slotta bases... only brown.

The models themselves? At first glance they're some nice clean models. They were quite a bit bigger than I was expecting though. Here's a size comparison with a GW Bloodbowl model:

Most of the pieces are one piece, there's a few who have legs (mmmmm, frog legs) and arms as separate bitz. The fit seems to be pretty good - I'll get some pictures after I get them washed and built. One of the models I picked up was the coach - I was hoping it would have been a bit bigger so I could use it as a Kroxigor if I wanted to.... nope, it's the same "size" as the other frogs

So, overall. The models look much gooder than I was expecting. The shipping wasn't unreasonable for cost - and it was fast (I've had ebay auctions from across the state take longer to ship to me). And, they sent me a football and a freebie mini:

So, since I'm taking the "renegade guard" to OFCC in two weeks, I figured I probably should get around to basing them and putting squad markings on 'em. Most of the units don't need anything, they're different enough (1 unit of these, 1 unit of those). The problem comes in with the 4 units of Penal Legion and the Infantry Platoon (with Special Weapons Squads). So, what I did was give all the 'legion prison tats on their right arms, and then the infantry platoon got squad markings (roman numerals I and II for the squads, diagonal slashes for the special weapons squad and a + for the command squad.

I'm still trying to figure out what to do for the bases. I think I just may cheat and use sand, paint, and static grass... but really, it's because I can't think of anything else.

I got a few games of Bloodbowl in with my Dwarf team (we're doing a 1.1M resurrection "tournament"). Game one was a grind against another Dwarf team. Ended up as a 1-1 tie. Game two was a win against a Vampire Count, 2-0. He just couldn't catch a break...

Built a Deathstrike..... mmmmm, Deathstrike.

Other than that - not a lot of gaming stuff going on this month. Second annual Geek Weekend is coming up - so that'll be fun...

Got a 2000 point and a 1500 point game in yesterday at the FnsLGS. 2000 points of "logan-wing" against an infantry heavy guard (squats!) list. A full half of the units at one point ran. WTF? :) Two objective, 12" deployment. The game went to 7 turns and ended with me snatching a tie back at the very end of the 7th turn.

I then got a 1500 point game against an actual Deathwing. I died. Horribly. Something to do with rolling too many 1's.

All and all, it was a fun list to play. It's defiantly more of a "cool idea" list vs. a "beat your face in" - but I'm ok with that... I actually planned that.

Right. So the week after Kubla was spent recovering (and dealing with the munchkins recovering). Sunday, I got the option to head out to Tri-Cities to play, but since they were doing a Fantasy tournament (practicing for OFCC Fantasy) I decided not to go. Cora and I got up and went to breakfast (a plan we usually do on Saturday), giving Darby and Lili some time to get going. After breakfast we went to the park (till the rain started) and then came home and cleaned the house. Darby powered through the upstairs, Cora and I powered through the downstairs.

After dinner and bedtime routine, I sat down to build and organize the "Logan Wing" Chaos terminators. I finished building the third squad, marked the bases for all the built ones, and figured out the legs for the last two squads.

At this rate, this army should be built by the end of the week.

Another Kubla down.... And I'm.... Beat.

Only 11 games played this year, but 11 good games. And I'll take quality over quantity any day. Friday night was the ever popular BBCS - we had 10 players for the first two rounds, and then down to 6 (Friday night flea market).
Lesson learned - start earlier.

Saturday was Prisonhamm... errr, Battleground. 8 players played 3 rounds.
Lessons learned - thoughts to de-complicate the campaign-a-ment

Saturday evening was some quality wife time in the human soup pot (hot tub), and then off to assist the Rez event. I got to play the zombies. I also was able to help the mini's coordinator to play a game of bloodbowl using one of the BBCS pitches and rules.

Sunday was the 40k event. It was more popular than expected and we were told it wasn't wacky enough.
Lesson learned - more wackyness.

Sunday night was a pickup game of BSG. I played Cain, cylon from the beginning, I was able to blind jump, and was airlocked for it. :).
Lesson learned - I still love that game.

Monday was cleanup, pack up, etc.

I think the wife and children will pass out in the airplane on the way home tonite.

40k event went off well. We had 10 people show up and fun wackyness was had by all. I tabled Manny with little losses, tabled Scott to some losses, and completed the mission before Corey did to "win" - only to to have the Astartes strike cruiser take me down. :)
