They call me mellow yellow...

Below is a series of pictures as I was getting the first layer of paint down on the Tyrandis.  I'm not going to make it for the escalation league - so... yeah.

First - Harmagaunts, rippers and objective markers primed in white.

Next, All the termigants in yellow.

I trapped a few flies in the wet paint - here's a close up.  :)

And, finally - the rest of the bugs in yellow.

Blood Bowl Finals...

4 players, single elimination.  This is me vs. Skaven.  Were it a league game, he would have been hurting for his next game - but alas and alak, it was was a resurrection style.  So, even though I beat the tar out of him, he did end up pulling a 2-0 victory (and, I do count my lucky stars that I kept him to just two scores).

There was no quarter offered, and I didn't make any obvious mistakes...  there's just something about a gutter runner with mv 10 and sprint..  :)

On the painting side of things - it was a reasonably nice weekend, and I was able to get all the bigger bugs primed.  Tomorrow, if the weather holds I'm going to try and get the hormagaunts and gargoyles primed.  This whole "not having a garage to spray in" is getting kinda old.  :)

First (two) game(s) with the Tyranids...

...in like 5 years.  :)

This is after my setup... lets just say it went downhill from there.  :)  Dave was playing a Deathwing list (first time with the new codex).  He stayed on my left side of table, so everything had to swing around.  Belial and his 10-man squad deep struck about where the hive tyrant is in this picture and it took 6 turns worth of combat, the huve tyrant, tyrant guard, and about 40 gaunts to kill the squad.  Here's a picture from about 3 seconds before the hive tyrant got pummeled to death by power fists...

For fun, I spawned gaunts every turn.  Didn't run out and didn't double out in the 6 turns I spawned.

Ended up loosing the game something like 14 to 5, but it was fun.

Started to get a 1000 point game in with someone else, but it had to be cut short after 2 turns - however, in those two turns I did manage to wreck face pretty bad.  No pictures though.

Color Test... I think that's a "Fail"

First picture is the test termagant, sprayed in a cream base coat, on the left side I used "Electric Blue" and on the right "Magic Blue".  I wasn't worried too much about coverage or cleanlyness.  I wanted to see how the new primer/base coat took the dip, what the dip would do to the model, and what would interact with the blue.

Second picture is about 2 hours after the dip in the "Mustard" wood stain.

Not quite sure if it comes through in the pictures - but the new basecoat/primer... sucks.  The stain doesn't flow the same - could be the temperature outside, could be the moisture in the air, could be that the can of spray paint primer and base coat doesn't do what normal primer and paint does.

I'm kinda liking the yellow spots on the blue armor plates.  It wasn't expected, but it does look kinda cool.  I will probably do some thinning of the varnish before the next test.  This time round, I think I'll stick with the paint choices I'm used to using...

Meanwhile, this termagaunt's going back in the vat for some cleaning.

How many termagants are in the jar?

Or, "did you know that plastic termagants float?"

This is the stripping of the gaunts for use as the Tervigon's spawned gaunts.

Pictures so big... it takes two

Ok, so top picture is my painting/building/hobby desk (that the wife uses just about as often as I do), bottom picture is one of those cool Micheal's $10 trays that I use to move/store/build things with when I can't use my desk.

I've got a little bit more than 2000 points here, depending on wargear - and assuming I can use 2 Force Org Charts (I've got 4 Elites).  The army I'm building/playing/painting for the escalation league is 1999 points using the following.  I've also got an extra Lictor...

  • Hive Tyrant - Lash Whip & Bone Sword, TL Devourer w/Brainleech, Regeneration, Armored Shell, Hive Commander (in metal)
  • 3 Tyrant Guard - Scything Talons and Rending Claws (2 in metal, one resin)
  • Tyranid Prime - Lash Whip & Bone Sword, Scything Talons (plastic warrior with resin weapons from the TG blister)
  • 3 Hive Guard (resin)
  • Doom of Malan'tai in Mycetic Spore (2nd ed metal zoanthrope and the armorcast pod)
  • 8 Ymgarl Genestealers (6 Chapterhouse heads, 2 plastic "Zoidberg" heads
  • 12 Hormagaunts
  • 5 Tyranid Warriors - 4 Devourers, 1 Barbed Stranger - all with Scything Talons
  • 23 Termagants - Fleshboarers
  • Tervigon
  • 10 Termagants in Mycetic Spore - Devourers
  • 4 Ripper Swarms - Tunnel Swarm
  • 10 Gargoyles
  • Mawloc - Regeneration and Toxin Sacs
  • 3 40mm Objective Markers
I want to build a Mawloc template (just for fun).  I've got an extra of the Dragonforge bases and I'm going to build up a bitz'd head  of a Mawloc breaking through.

Ke-runch? Ker-splat? Thump?

I dunno - what sound would a mycetic spore make when it impacts into the ground?  I'm using Armorsasts's "Erupting Alien Birthing Pod" for it, sitting on one of Dragon Forge's 120mm Round Lipped blank bases just to make things easier for me in the long run.

Bit of hobby review.  Armorcast's pod were shipped day after I ordered and delivered to me within 3 days (this was the week between Christmas and New Year), and Dragon Forge's bases were shipped within a week of my order and received two days later (this is during the time he's telling everyone he's on a 2-3 week back order)...  Very happy with both these companies right now.

I did some re-jiggering with my final list (probably not the last time, either).  Combined the two smaller gaunt broods into one bigger one, dropped two ymgarl stealers and picked up 4 burrowing ripper swarms.

Little hands make tight stitches

Had some help from the 5 year old on this brood of termagants.

Mawloc

This leaves just a $#!+ ton of termagants and the ymgarl stealers to build. I've got 24 termigants done already, planning on at least another 30, I think.

Hive Tyrant in traction... :)

Fixing (and pinning) right leg. Needed to keep it in position so the feet (hoof? Claw? ) stayed flat.

Flashback... flash foward...?

Personal detail here - I've been playing 40k for a while now.  While I didn't play Rogue Trader, I remember when the 2nd edition box set came out.  I didn't really play 40k till just before the Dark Millennium box came out.  My first army was a Genestealer Cult.  Before the 5th edition Tyranid codex came out, I purged my entire Tyranid collection.  I didn't really see an army out of the 5th ed codex, so I didn't have a desire to re-build / build anew.

In November, I picked up a sweet deal of most of someone's Tyrainid army for reasonably cheap.  It was reasonably diverse, some metal, some resin, mostly plastic.  I've since dug through my bits and picked up few boxes (at various discounts / winnings).  Over the last few weeks, I've started putting things together, fixing the broken models, figuring out what I needed to still add to it.

Now locally, we're on the back side of the Bloodbowl season - so there's some discussion of starting an escalation league... how convenient.

Here's what I'm thinking for the 500 point section - pure seeding swarm mentality.

  • Tyranid Prime, Scything Talons, Lash Whip & Bonesword
  • 2 Hive Guard
  • 12 Hormagaunts
  • 5 Tyranid Warriros - 4 Devourers and 1 Barbed Strangler, all with Scything Talons
  • 10 Gargoyles with Toxin Sacs

Here's some pictures of my painting/building desk here on the first of the year.
