Dipped using "settled" stain. The stain will separate if you leave it alone too long - which is why you usually want to stir the crap out of it (no shaking - you get air bubbles). Knowing it will do this - you can dip in the settled stuff and it won't be as dark.
For any of your readers with a woman in their lives: the air bubble problem is also the reason I, a professional nail tech, roll (which stirs with two little beads) instead of shake a bottle of nail polish before polishing nails. Just thought you'd wanna know. :)
