Dark Elf Bloodbowl, game 2

...and it was good.

Got my second game in this last weekend with the Dark Elfs (Elves?).  Beat the Undead team 3-1.  Got two guys to level up, earned enough (with my Treasury) to replace a Witch Elf and pick up an Apothecary.  Fan factor went up again.  I didn't do anything to him casualty wise.  He did some damage to himself.  I had one badly hurt Lineman, and 2 that were ejected for fouling.  Other than that, a reasonably low impact game.

The wife is going to have a sewing party on next Sunday, so I get to go back out and play again next week.  Hoping to get at least two games of BB in.  Maybe they'll be painted...  :)

Gamer ADD, round two...

Greenstuff'd arm, and storm bolter with added ammo belt (Ork, to be exact).

One more bitz-built Terminator with the exception of the head.  One of the "Steam Knight Helmets" by MaxMini.   It's a little taller than the standard terminator helmets so will take a little trimming to get the other ones in.

I'll admit it, I have have Gamer ADD...

So, I've had this idea for a chaos-wing army rolling around in the back of my head for like almost 2 years.  I kept putting it off because the list using the Deathwing list just wasn't good enough for me.  With the Wolves codex the list is gooder.

Sigh.

So, I picked up a Chaos Terminator Lord box (on sale!) while I was on a work trip, and got some terminators in trade and went digging through my bitz box.  I was able, with this $18 box, and my bitz to build my Logan proxy, my rune priest (sorcerer), 2 terminator Lone Wolves, and a full 6-man squad.

I still need to get the guard army up and running.  Here's some pictures of what I've got so far.  They're not quite done done... need to do some cleanup and greenstuff work (and give logan his storm bolter).

Anyone got any extra terminator legs they don't need?  I've got plenty of torso's and weapons...

Post tournament thoughts...

I ran a tournament today.  Dismal turnout... five.  (Really guys, only 5 of you?).  But I think fun was had by all.

Ran a new tournament scoring sheet where scoring was not as visible to the players, and instead of the standard GW "pick one of the following" for painting and composition... it was more "check all that apply."  I set the numbers to be up out of 100 points (51 pts for battle, 15 for opponent judged comp/theme, 10 for TO painting, and 24 for opponent scored theme).  The score range today was 44 to 77.  Missions blatantly stolen and modified from the  "Dice Like Thunder" missions (link here - pdf warning).

That is all.

Wife's painting skillz....

They've been sitting close to done for almost a month now.  It was just waiting on me getting off my *deleted* to base and seal them.

Done.

They're going up on eBay as soon as I finish this post...  Thanksgiving vacation gas money.  :)

Funniest Casualty in a while...

Bloodbowl. First game with the Dark Elves. First game in the league season. Playing Ogres. Second action with the one (and only) WitchElf. She Blitzes the snotling cage, three dice all come up a 'Push'.  Snotling pops out of the pocket (stoopid side step), frenzy kicks in and she's got to hit again. This time she only rolling one die.

'Both Down'

I roll on the snotling armour (5)... roll a 4. He rolls on the  Witch's armour (7)... Rolls an 11. Rolls for result... 12.  Casualty.  Result of 63.

One.

Dead.

Witch Elf.

...

Crap.

A 20k model just caused the death of a 110k model. Sigh. Have I mentioned I love this game? :)
On a positive note, the next time anyone plays the Ogres, they're going to owe me big. I downed 3 of the 5 beasts, and killed something like 4 snotlings.

Does it count as a real game?

So, my wife and friend have been colluding behind my back - something about me not getting enough game time in.  Add to that, said friend's wife just had their second child, so he's a little home bound for a while.  Add to that, he just got the newest expansion for Battleground - the Romans....

I've played 2 games via powerpoint and gmail chat.  The games look something like this:

I take my turn, moving the objects that are the cards (all to the correct scale), and drawing arrows for the shooting where needed.  I send him the power point file, he opens up we resolve the combats, he marks damages, flips cards around when they run (and do those smashing arrows) then does the "X" if they died for one reason or another. then takes his turn.  Copying the slide to a new one and making the changes.  I roll dice on my end, he rolls dice on his end.  Snarky comments ensue.  Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

So, a 2000 point game which normally would take no more than 1.5 hours takes 3-4 (usually over 2 evenings)... but I ask the question, does this count as a game?  :)

Space Hulk... boy, I do suck at this game. But it's fun. :)

Got 4 games of Space Hulk in on Sunday.  Played the first mission twice on each side yesterday.  Once at the game store, 'nids won both of those, then again with the wife after I put daughter down for bed.  She won both of those missions - and had fun to boot.

Time to re-read the rulebook

So I was flipping the rule book for something that I was double checking (not important to this bit) when I stumbled upon this bit:

Page 67, second paragraph of "Destroyed - Explodes!"

Note: remember that all models in a single unit fire simultaneously,  so a squad cannot take out a transport with its lascannon then mow down the occupants with their bolters.  However, if a transport is  destroyed (either result) by a ranged attack, the unit that shot it may assault the now disembarked passengers, if it allowed to assault  according to the assault rules.
I highlighted the part that made me go *blink*, *blink*.  Assault units with anti-tank weapons...  how did I miss this?  How has it not happened to me in the last year and a half?

I sent that paragraph with a "how did I miss that?"  to my evil twin and he responded with:

"Same way I missed pg62 "wrecks" count as both difficult AND dangerous terrain.  Makes transports slightly more dangerous to use.
"oh look I blew up your rhino. Now make a difficult terrain test for everyone that lived.""

I flipped to the page - well, damn.  Right.  What else am I missing?  What other rules changed between 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th editions are rolling around in the empty space between my ears?  Time to sit down in a quiet place and re-crack open the book.  Something I think really should be done about once a year anyway.

Which brings me to my point.  So often, gamers have a minor (or major in some people's case) of Gamer ADD.  Now for some people it's the gamer magpie (aka - "ohhh shiney") effect that results in people starting new armies when the next codex comes out "because it's the end all, be all, for this game!  It will totally dominate this game!"   ... and then sell the army off in 3 months time because they are in fact living with a case of INMABS (I Need My Ass Beat Syndrome) because they only read the good parts of the codex/rulebook/army list/whatever.  (BTW, for the record - 3 to 4 months after a Codex comes out is a good time to get reasonably cheap, used armies from eBay...)

Sitting down and re-reading my Ork codex a in August is what got me to look at Boss Zagstruk.  I'm now in the process of acquiring new Ork Stormboyz to bring a full mob in for my larger games.

So, my fall reading plan is to re-read my 5th Edition rulebook, and all my codexes (codecies?).  All of them, not just the ones I currently have armies using.  May I suggest you do the same?

BFG* for the Win!

Ok, I'll admit it, I'm lousy at remembering to take pictures during the games.  All's I have are these two from the first game:

Scot's turn 5 deepstrke and assault with Boss Zagstruk and da Vulta Boyz (it didn't end well for the deffkopas)

Tye's Bloodthirster (yes, it's blue - got a problem with that?) checking out his new ride, trying to figure out if he can fix it to make a pimpin' ride.  :)

Right.  So my army was Wazdakka, 2 x bikerz (3 plus nob with a 'uge choppa), and 2 deffkoptas with Kustom Mega Blastas (reasonably useless today).  Tye's was a Bloodthirster with some upgrades, 3 nurglings, 3 Bloodcrushers, and a nekkid daemon prince.  Hence the team name:  "Beardy Fat Gits."

Game 1, vs Orks/Orks.  Run forward kill stuff.  Orks die.  Zagstruk and krew wait till turn 5 to come in (their turn 4 was just rolling for reserves).  Game over.  We win.

Game 2, vs. Imperial Guard and Tau.  Run forward and kill stuff.  End of turn 4, only the drones from one of the devilfish was still around.  It was a kill point mission so the guard player combined his 4 squads into one... then got charged by the 'thirster who killed more, broke them, and ran them down.   It did take till turn 6 to kill the last drones.  We win.

Game 3, vs. Space Marines and Tau.  Highlight of the game - Wazdakka charges into a squad of terminators who were wrestling with nurglings (termi player wasn't rolling well).  Completely whiffed... broke, and ran away.  It took another two turns to wipe them off the table.  We win.

End of the day, after some math-fu corrections...

Which, really was overall.   :)

Tournament prep...

Got most things packed up for the couples... errrr, *team* tournament tomorrow.  I'll try to send short updates throughout the day with some pictures. :)  In theory, the whole event is supposed to be a painted only kinda thing.

Total games played.

So, it looks like with the passing of the equinox, summer is officially over. Here was the game totals for the summer.

  • 10- Bloodbowl
  • 2 - Necromunda
  • 1 - Warhammer Fantasy (Ogre Kingdoms)
  • 3 - Warhammer 40k (Plague Marines)
  • 2 - Warhammer 40k (Eldar)
  • 13 - BattleGround
  • 2 - Game X
  • 3- Battlestar Galactica
  • 1 - Apples to Apples
I was hoping to get more games of 40k or Warhammer in - I will get 3 games in this weekend though (doubles tournament). I didn't get *any* games of Space Hulk in (can't complain too much, came out what, 3 weeks ago?) Got more games of Bloodbowl and Battleground than expected, and had a blast playing Apples to Apples. I can't wait for the Pegasus expansion to come out so I can airlock a skin job (if that doesn't make sense, you need to rent/buy/borrow/steal the BSG series). There's talk of a local Bloodbowl league...

The games are much better when both armies are painted... you know?

Got to play against someone's brand new DKOK* army. 1500 points, Dawn of War, Capture and Control. My army was an Avatar, 1x6 WG, 2x10 WG, 3 walkers with scatter lasers and 5 dark reapers. His was (from memory); Command with vox (which he forgot till the middle of his next game), banner and 2 grenade launchers, Storm Troopers, 1 squad of Vets, a Platoon with 3 Inf squads and a LC and AC squad, LRMBT, and LR demolisher.

I abandoned my objective, knowing that if I committed one of my Troops to claiming it I could really short myself (400 points to be exact) to play for a tie.

His use of orders helped a lot - the re-roll of cover save is harsh against the Concealed WG. Twin-linking against the Avatar put it in the red before it made combat - took a inf platoon and command squad 3 turns to take that last wound from it though. :)

It was a bloody, 7-turn game. At the end, I had my 5 dark reapers in one corner and 1 WG with a spirit seer sitting on his objective. He had 1 AC team, 7 inf, and 3 of his command squad too far away to do anything.

It was a *good* game.

Ork Teasers...

Teaser pics of the painted Orks... No, I didn't paint them. A very good friend of mine did.

CAPTCHA - you've got to love it...

Ok, so this is reasonably random...

I've got an iPhone, I've had one for work since they first came out. To say that MMS functions on the phone suck is a bit like saying the Pacific is small ocean. It's this huge whole "go to this web page, use this user name with this password to view the picture." The user name is usually something like "I76rSB*m" - but the password, the password seems to usually have some relevance to the picture. I'll get passwords like "bugs4fun" or "cars4all" when I get pictures of VW's from my brother (obligatory link here). From my sister I usually get passwords like "hair8fun".

I was reading a friend of a friends blog about his Chaos army - specifically about his World Eater's squad. The CAPTCHA that google decided to give me was so appropriate I had to take a screenshot.

Funny/odd... ya?

Not a lot of gaming done in the last week - my daughter turned 2 today. More updates later this week.

Owie, owie, owie, make the bad man stop...

I'm not sure if you can tell from the picture - but that would be an Avatar and 10 Wraithguard about to be curb stomped by Vulkan and 5 thunder-hammer equipped assault terminators. Can I say "curb stomp" and still be reasonably politically correct? ;)

Dusted off the Eldar for some fun, got a game in against a *really* nice Armageddon list (his 2000 is a mix of Salamanders, Blood Angels, and Ultramarines, lead by Vulkan). No, it's not using the special rules for all those different armies, just the paint jobs. Since he's got Vulkan, he has that lovely special rule set.

Kill point mission - he got 5, I got 1. I did lot's of immobilizing, but that Terminator squad is a tough nut for me to crack with my Eldar. If I have range on him this turn, he's in assault range on his next turn... and he's got a 2+/3+ save.

Did some final planning with my teammate for the 500 point tournament coming up. We are going to a very special place in Hell for our lists. :) More on that later.

Picture pages, picture pages, get your picture, pictures pages...

I promised pictures of the Dwarf team for Bloodbowl that the wife unit painted up. Truth be told, she build most of it too. Anywho, it's up on ebay currently (my part of the proceeds goes towards me buying the BB video game... :) which I've been informed I have to share - does playing it still count as gaming?).

Right.

Here.

We.

Go.

The whole team:.

Slayers - I didn't have the heart to take their weapons away from them:

Runners - as evident by the winged helmets and the white guy shuffle:

Blitzers - Players with "Dodge" get trapped in their cloaks:

Linemen (Line Dwarfs? Line Dwarves?):

Strange, late-night BSG game

I've got friends getting married.... today (in 7 hours, actually). Last night everyone and their monkeys were over at the rental house (marriage is happening 300 miles away from where they live and 600 miles away from where I live) for a shindig - the "boyz" busted out some BSG. Got a 5 player game in. Very strange happenings.

I knew who one of the two Cylon's were from like turn 2, but didn't reveal in case I pulled the other "You are a Cylon" card at the "Sleeper Agent Phase" (again, if these things make no sense to you - you need to pick up this game, it's great) - that was gained through a crisis card that allows the President (me) to look at one random loyalty card... hey, lookie here, one random of one...

After the Sleeper Agent Phase, I used Baltar's once per game to look at all the cards of another player, realized he wasn't the Cylon I thought he was and did the whole "huh - who's the Cylon?"

After the Cylon revealed (in the brig, so no bonuses) he did the "resurrection ship" location to pass his other loyalty card to me. Guess what, I'm actually the second Cylon. I was able to do a reasonably good job of hindering without letting on. I had the guy who I thought might be the other Cyclon about "80-90 percent sure you're human."

I didn't get to reveal because the Cyclon played his Super Crisis, put a crap ton of ships on the board (like I think one quadrant had 11 raiders) and then attacked the perfect ships to bring the population down to below "0" (two of those civilian ships have 2 population... he found both of them).

What I've been working on...

Picked up a box of Dark Elf Black Ark Corsairs to use as the base of my Blood Bowl DE team. Here's one of the runners I built from it:

The entire team has "brass knuckles" - basically the hilt of their swords... but come on, if anyone would do it, the Dark Elf's would, ya?

Here's the Blitzers:

This week I also picked up a box set of the Ork Stormboyz. Man, do I wish I had built these guys before I built the bikers. There's 10 heads in a box of 5 guys. 10 Really cool heads. :)

And the bitz in the kit just kick ass... I built this to be used as a messenger, objective, wound counter... dunno exactly yet. As I was cleaning up the sprues after building the 5 guys I noticed that the part of the rocket pack fit perfectly on the little guy.

I'm planning on getting 3 more boxes of Stormboyz, so I'll have 3 more of them...

Got a game in with the wife...

Cora's starting skipping her naps - not consistently, but I think in the last week she's only take like 2 of them. This nap skipping means a few things... Thing one - she get's a little grumpy around 6pm or so. Thing two - it usually means she passes out in like 5 minutes when we put her down for bed. Last night was one of those nights. How is this gaming related you ask? Allow me to illuminate.

It meant that Darby and I had a little extra time - I convinced her to finally try Prison Hammer... errr, Battleground. :)

I let her pick which army she wanted - Orcs, Wood Elves, Lizardmen, or Dwarfs. She choose the lizards, and I grabbed the Orcs. To make things "fair" we used the first 1500-point list that comes in the deck. If you don't know what that means, allow me to explain - Your Move Games (the makers of Battleground) did a very smart thing: The starter deck has two lists, premade in the box... the idea being you buy one $15 box, you build one of the decks, your friend builds the other (from the same box) and you guys play. You've now got an idea of how to play the game, and then your friend goes out and buys a box... it's like cardboard crack. :)

Anyway, so Darby and I played a 1500 point game. It went well. We called it before everything was dead, but it was getting interesting. I had lost a bit, she had lost a bit... I think she would have destroyed me in a few more turns. I think she likes the game - we just have to try again one of these days when she's not as tired. :)

Sunday, August 16, 2009

Nope, I'm not dead...

Just sleeping. Or, well... not even that really.

Right, so the summer of summerness is moving right along.

Darby's got one Dwarf BB team done that's going up on eBay, pictures (and link) probably tomorrow (you know, after I actually take the damn things).

This weekend was one of the "planned" weeekends - it was supposed to just be homemade sushi and Battlestar (the board game) today, but the wife planned our next weekend (which was supposed to be a gamer commute weekend), so today because both a sushi/BSG and a gamer commute weekend.

Played the Dwarf team (gotta give it a good game before it get's shipped off to east BFE... ), played against a Chaos Dwarf team. Actually scored... twice. This one though, the dice were against me. First turn, furst block (with a slayer) "Skull" burn one of two re-rolls... "Skull". Right - I know how this game is going to go. From there it was a battle of the inept, it became a contest to see who could mess up the least... turned out to be me.

Drove home, helped in sushi prep and then 4 of Darby's friends came over, we ate lots of sushi and then I introduced them all to BSG. First game took 3.5 hours (a bit long for 6-players, but not bad considering Darby and I had two games under our belt from like April/May, and the other 4 had never played). Humans win... just barely. Skill test to force a jump prep (a failure would have been a loss of population - which would have put it to zero) then jump - I'm playing Helo as the Admiral, and pick the 2 destination card - which is a loose morale and a raptor.

Now, if that last paragraph didn't make anysense... look back through my old posts on BSG - or go to Fantasy Flight Games home page and look it up. It's a *fun* game (and no, you don't have to know the show for it to make sense).

That is all. More pictures early this week, I promise.

"bye bye wookie"

20 games done. Holy hell my head hurts. We squeezed in a bloodbowl
game and a prison hammer game before my flight out. I'm now sitting
in the airport waiting for boarding to start. It's a full flight,
and going to be cozy.

18 games down... 1 (2?) to go...

Right, that's 18 games played since 11pm Friday night. Most of the game has been prisonhammer (Battleground - Fantasy Wargame) , but there's been games of 40k, Bloodbowl, and a game that Corey's working on....

We're planning on one more game of Battleground, and maybe one more game of blood bowl.

I think it might take a week to catch up on my sleep. I don't think I've gotten to bed before midnight since Friday (usually closer to 3am), and I'm usually up before 8.

Right.

Apologies for the dark picture...

Corey's 'game room' is a '50s vintage garage with floor lamps.

Anyway, got another beating by the Mordians... this time with less
cheating. :)

Here's about halfway through three. It had gone south for me long
before then.

Monday, July 27, 2009

Monday night 40k

Corey brought out the Mordians on my request. They've been in the
closet so long the black is a lovely shade of dust.

:)

Sleep is for the weak...

There's something to be said about not having the normal responsibilities for a few days. Being able to stay up till 3am playing games is kinda fun... the downside being my body close to having a "schedule" of "hey! get your ass out of bed" pretty much as soon as the sun comes up.

We're up to 12 games played so far for the trip - our goal is 16. Most of it in prisonhammer. The "official event for the weekend" was the campaignement we did on Saturday. The basic idea being a uprising / revolt in the Kingdom of Hawkshold. You had to have at least 25% "allies" of MoH and that could change from game to game. We started the campaign tree with the stuff needed to do that (for free), and then played a compressed build (basically tripling the amount of gold earned). The "issue" we noticed was that you had the ability to take what you needed to from the MoH so it wasn't a downside. I was playing Orcs and when I needed to take the low model count army - I took Knights. When I needed to take the hard list with some range... I took 2 units of Long Bowmen.

After the campaignament we were talking about it and I came up with the idea that we should have a "you have to take this unit" type of uprising. So we sat down and came up with the rolling chart
  • one unit of Knights,
  • one unit of Long Bowmen,
  • two Militia and one Peasant Mob,
  • one Spearmen and either one Swordsman or one Archer,
  • one unit of Heavy Infantry
We then decided yesterday to try it out. Corey built a Dwarf and Monsters & Mercenaries list. I built an Orc and Lizardmen list. Lizards played Dwarfs, Orcs played M&M, Lizards played M&M, and then Orcs played Dwarfs. Non-playing factions got a bye for the rounds.

End of the revised campaign-a-ment, Dwarfs will with 11 VP, Lizards had 10, M&M got 9, and the Orcs had a pathetic showing at 6VP. But the new system works. And it works better than the 25% rule. :)

Plan for today: Maybe a game or two of 40k... I only need 4 games to hit our 16 game goal...

Saturday, July 25, 2009

Battleground tournament down...

Three games of prisonhammer, one "campaignament" win.

Off to food and then more blood bowl.

Pre-gaming gaming...

Got the first part of a dwarf v norse game of bloodbowl in before we
headed out for the cardhammer tournament...

Gamer Weekend... *of* *Dooooooooom*...

So I headed down to my friends place this weekend for a 5-day long gamer fest. :)

We're planning on getting 16 games between Friday night when I arrived and Wednesday afternoon when I leave.

It's now 2:30 am on... well, Saturday morning - we're playing a Battleground Tournament in 8 hours. I've gotten 3 beers, some cheddar bacon fries for Jack-in-the-Box, and 1 game of Blood Bowl in.

15 to go.

It's going to be a fun weekend.

Games in the heat...

I love days when thunderstorms come in. Hot *and* humid. :) Game store's AC's not the best... the only reason it doesn't turn too bad in there - it's a big book store with lots of space to dissipateb the gamer funk.

Anyway, took the bi-weekly pilgrimage west to get some games in this weekend. There was some discussion on the "local" board about a couple of people who were headed out of town next week for a 1999-point Fantasy tournament - they wanted to get a few games in to try some things out. It's a strange point total, a max of 3 heroes, 3 special and 1 rare... but a lot of points available. The odd thing about my current Ogre Kingdom army - it meant combining the leadbelchers from 4 units to 3. That's it. I only had 1 rare (Slave Giant), and I didn't have any lords.

After getting the Empire beat-down - ok, it wasn't a beat-down I did loose, but it was a weird swinging game that saw my right flank disappear (stoopid knights and steam tank), and my left flank sweep through his... swirling masses of brutal combat I tell you. I think I'll do some conversion work to get myself a BSB... could use the Ld boost.

On to the 40k game. A 1500 point Plague Marine list. Sorcerer with some upgrades, 5 units of plague marines, 1 unit of daemons and an obliterator. Playing against an Iron Warriors inspired (DP, Terminator Lord, Terminator Squad, 2x10 CSM, Predator, Land Raider, and Defilier). Had it not been for the two turns of walking across the open killing field it would have been closer. T5 and FNP doesn't help against the onslought of lascannons... :) Good game anyway.

Right. As for the new guard army - I still need to put 2 more colors on the ratlings and then they're done. I'm hoping to get it done this week - at which point I will post pictures. I promise.

2 down, 3 to (acquire, and) go...

Apologies for the quality of the pictures. This evening I spent painting the Yeld and finishing the movement trays for my Ogres.

It's less than I wanted to get done, but - what are you going to do? I'm lazy. :)

I did get my ratlings primed. They're up next for the painting.

Green Yeld

Here's the deal, I picked up this guy off ebay shipped for like $5 minus the wings. Dig through bitz box of doom... find closest thing I can find to the Yeld wings, add a little greenstuff to cover the fleur de lis, et voila!

One "Green Hunter" Yeld. Wing power-ups haven't kicked in yet. :)

Planning on painting it up this weekend... more pictures to come.

Yawn... *Blink* *Blink* Holy Cra...

Wow, has it really been that long since the last post. Sorry about that guys. Haven't really been working on much gaming wise. Let's see...

Painted an Orrus for a Spyrer gang for Necromunda...

Started building movement trays for my be revived Ogre Kingdom Army...

Built two blisters worth of Imperial Guard Ratling Snipers...

Yeah, that's about it.

What's that? You want pictures? Right, you are a surly bunch this morning. First up - Orrus standing on the movement trays:

No pictures of the the hobbi...err, Ratlings - they're bare metal at this point and really it's not worth wasting the electrons.

Should have more updates (more often) for you guys next week - the wife and child are out of town and I may be able to get a few hours in.

Kubla final thoughts... and a post mortum.

I'll point you to my friends blog Itinerant Geekdom for a blow by blow of his gaming weekend. He's a much better scribe of the day to day. I'll just say I had 12 (using his methodology of counting) *good* games. We're already planning on what to do for next year.

I may have gotten the wife interested in playing CardHa...errr, Battlefront :) - we'll see how that goes, maybe I can get a game or two in at a time other than Kubla.

Next years plans include a new pitch or two for BBCS, some tweaking on 40k for Pink Slips, Cardhammer, and then some funky 40k type thing. The babysitter option we had this year worked well (thanks sis!) and will probably take some minor tweaks for next year.

This week is down time, I did some building of a Necromunda gang... but really, not a lot of gaming related - just catching up on my sleep. :) I'm starting my new IG army next week/month and will have pictures and posts on it. The plan is to BBP this army (Buy, Build, and Paint) so I don't get overwhelmed with the paint job.

Kubla, part 2

Remember how I said to expect random posts? Yeah, that would involve me actually taking pictures and stuff...

Anywho - quick rundown of events.

Friday night we did the Blood Bowl Championship series - "slightly" altered rules for each of the 12 pitches.

3 Hours of Sleep...

Saturday was a Rezolution - fun silly game, look it up if skirmish games interest you. Abberantgames.com

Saturday night was 40k For Pink Slips - Drop pod and Tau battlesuits got beat by Eldar Warwalkers and Firedragons in Wave Serpent. But had fun. Played a quick game of BattleFront while waiting for Round 3 to finish then played a few small games with friends using the slightly modified Pink Slips rules.

It's now just past 2am (couldn't sleep)... I'll post tomorow's stuff... ummm... tomorow. :)

Off to KublaCon...

We're headed out today to spend some time in Portland with my family before heading down to San Fransisco for KublaCon. I've done some magic to be able to post things (and sometimes even pictures) of the happenings of KublaCon.

Enjoy the random and sporadic posts over the Memorial Day Weekend!

"Reinforcements en route!"

Furioso! ... of Doom.

Plastic dreadnought kit, forgeworld close combat arms... slightly modified. The heavy flamer under the left claw is the standard plastic one, the meltagun under the right is the plastic stormbolter, shaved with the Reaver titan Inferno Gun "barrel" and a plastic MM canister from the speeders.

The paint job was done by "the wife" (that one's for you, Mom! :) ) in about 3 hours over two nights. I'm going to base and seal this bad boy this evening while she finishes the drop pod for it.

This, along with the "bigger-ized Marine," (and some termiantors I already have done) are for the "40k for Pink Slips" event I'm running at Kublacon over Memorial Day Weekend.

Gamers lost in the hinterland...

So, my wife kidnapped me this last weekend. We went from South Eastern Washington to Central Western Oregon. It's about a six and a half / seven hours (depending on who's driving and who's sleeping...)

Here's the krux of the post though - if you wander off the beaten path is search of a gaming store... they ain't there. I searched for a while using my iPhone for a game store / comic book shop... something that might carry GW stuff. Nothing. Nada. GW's webpage has the nearest place in Corvallis - which is about an hour or so over a mountain pass...

When we got back into Portland while driving home, we could have stopped at quite a few stores... but here's the question - do you stop at other games stores while you're traveling?

"Reinforcements have arrived!"

Hot D@mn that was fast! I (re) ordered my last two deff koptas from ebay on Thursday. They showed up on Saturday. That means my Orks are now at 2000 points. I think I may have solved the storage issues - more on that as it comes about. Once I get these last two deff kopta's built they get shipped off to the paint factory (I know, I know, I know). I'll get pictures of the completly built army before they go off.

Which brings me to my next project. I've been shamed/badgered/taunted into actually created, painting, and more importantly *finishing* a guard army. Current plan is a Chaos-y tainted guard.

Psyker Lord
Priest (his trusty sidekick)
9 Ratlings
9 Ogyrns
Psyker Battle squad (8+Overseer)
Platoon
-Command: Autocannon and 2 GL
-Squad with Flamer
-Squad with Flamer
-Special weapons (2 melta and 1 demo)
-Special weapons (2 melta and 1 demo)
4x10 Penal Legion
9 Rough Riders
Bane Wolf
Demolisher

"Pictures or it didn't happen!"

Now, I just need those last two Deff Koptas and this beast is complete. The complete army list can be found here, if anyone is interested.

Now I just need to figure out how to transport the thing without killing my gaming budget (I'm looking at you battlefoam - good stuff, but a bit spendy sometimes) :)

Close!

Ammo belts and boosta chambers are all that's needed to complete Wazdakka. I left the dampners, hand and track guards off... because really... who needs track guards?

I'm hoping to have this thing all done by tomorrow - but at the rate I'm going, Thursday. :)

First game down... Orkes Never Loose!

(Seriously, if dey win, dey win. If dey run away - dey fight again, and if dey die, dey dont know no betta! :) - I won this one, but not by much).

Played a 1500 point game against an eldar army today. My 1500 point list is the 2000 point list minus the nobz and a two deff koptas. He had 2 farseers, 2 kitted out dire avengers in bright lance wave serpents, banshees in a falcon, 3 scatter laser warwalkers, 6 jetbikes, and a wraith lord.

Highlights of the game:
  • 7 bikers opening up with their dakka guns on the wraithlord, putting two wounds on it. It going stupid next round and then taking a rokkit to the head
  • Wazdakka and a farseer duking it out for 3 turns of combat (panzee just wouldn't fail that save!)
  • me picking up a dooomed mob of biker boyz from the guided scatter lasers from the warwalkers
  • killing 4 banshees in the exploding wreck of the falcon as it tried to valiently park on an objective on his 5th turn (and then proceeding to charge the remaining 2 banshees, exarch, and farseer and wipe them out to no looses)

Mission was 5 objectives with 12" deployment. I almost didn't fit.... He went first. At the end of my turn 5 he had two dire avengers running away and a floating wreck of a wave serpent. I had Wazdakka, a nob from one bike mob, 2 boyz from another mob, 11 of the 12 'Ard Boyz, their trukk and the big mek.

Things to remember for later games:
  • I have to get used to the mobility. I've only been playing my Undead Eldar and Plague Marine lists for the last year or so... swift as the tyranid I must become again.
  • Shokk Attack gun is fun... nothing serious - don't count on it. It did some damage, but part of the issue was he was all buttoned up and I didn't have a lot of targets with it. I did "misfire" it once (rolled an 11 - becomes S10, only hit's the "model" under the center hole, can't fire next turn), but I did manage to centerhole the tank with it anyway.
  • Deff Kopta = Jetbike = ignore terrain while moving... (only the stoopid panzees get the extra move)

All and all, a fun and brutal list.

Time Lapse

Through the magic of 19th century photography... I give you my afternoon project. :)

Not quite done - I don't think the ForgeWorld resin likes my superglue. Everything took forever to dry (and yes, I washed all the pieces yesterday - see the bowl in the background?). Oh well, it was a nice quite day(mostly) that involved lawn care, shopping, balancing the check book, paying bills, building and doing the dishes.

I'll do another set of time lapse from this point on when I get back to building Wazdakka - tomorow I'm hoping to get a game in with the army using the magic of "proxy"... well, most of the army atleast. Cut it down to 1500, pll the nobz and use one of them as Wazdakka. If it happens I'll post a result.
